Baptism is necessary to receive other sacraments. Usually, a child is baptized in the first weeks of life.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\"><strong>History of baptism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">The word &#8220;baptism&#8221; comes from the Greek &#8220;\u03b2\u03ac\u03c0\u03c4\u03b9\u03c3\u03bc\u03b1&#8221; (baptisma), which means &#8220;immersion&#8221;. Baptism is attributed to John the Baptist, who first practiced immersion in water as a symbol of purification and conversion. In the early phase of Christianity, baptism was mainly intended for adults, but gradually children also began to be baptized.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\"><strong>Preparation for baptism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">Parents choose godparents and register the baptism at the parish office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">Before baptism, they undergo baptismal catechesis, where they learn about the meaning of baptism and its course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">Subsequently, the date of baptism is agreed with the priest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">A thin long candle and a robe (baptism shirt) with the child&#8217;s name and date of birth and baptism will be provided.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">Documents such as the parents&#8217; identity card and the child&#8217;s birth certificate must also be brought to the rectory.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\"><strong>The course of baptisms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">The priest (3x) sprinkles the child with holy water or immerses him in water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">He officially baptizes the child in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">He then anoints the child with holy kizma (oil) as a sign of sanctification and protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"letter-spacing:0.5px\">A white robe (baptism shirt) is attached to the baptized person, which expresses that the baptized person has put on Christ.
